Short story version of my game Vit. :) (There's going to be a lot more to it, but this includes the major details)
“VIT!!!” A scream from the
distance woke a king’s sleep. He knew the voice, and that terrified him.
The King got up from his bed and
tried to find the source of the scream, but he could not find it. That scream,
that was the voice of his lover. He looked down at his hands and saw something
that terrified him even more. The floor, which had previously been an
assortment of multicolored tiles, was fading to white. All the color was slowly
fading, from where he stood, stretching all around the room. He stepped out
onto the balcony of the Palace of color. His eyes widened with grief and fear.
His lands, which had previously been a beautiful piece of abstract art, had now
bore resemblance to the appearance of a blank canvas. Many things had
completely lost color, and others had just disappeared. This struck him so bad
that the king jumped off of his balcony and hopped into his helicopter, to fly
quickly to his city.
Little colorless people were
laying on the ground, seeming as if the color loss was causing them great pain…
Some had been still running around in fear of the inevitable. The King was so
scared. He didn’t understand why this was happening, but then it hit him. His
queen was gone.
You see, the king and queen of
the land of color are actually known as the Legendary Keepers of Hue. Years
ago, two young adventurers had lived in a land without color. It was a lonely
world, where near to no other creatures lived, other than evil, mean monsters.
Those adventurers ran from their homelands, away from where they were trapped
by the evil King Colorless, to try to find a better home. They found a far away
island, that amazed them so much that, for years, they refused to leave. This
island was known as Color Isle. The one place in all the realm that could never
run out of color, because it was the source of all color. The beauty of this
island inspired the adventurers to return back home and tell their friends and
family about it. Nobody believed or understood what they were saying. Nobody
had ever seen color before.
When the adventurers returned,
the evil King Colorless had found them. Knowing that the two had left, he sent
his Fades, flying creatures that feed off color and erase it, after them. The
adventurers ran from their home once again and returned to Color Isle. There,
they found what they needed to return all of the color back to the world that
the evil king had stolen.
This was when King Color,
otherwise known as Vit, and the queen had found a way to return color to the
realm. Now, the evil King Colorless must have been planning to, once again,
remove the color from the realm. Vit knew that the world would eventually be
completely under the king’s control if he hadn’t been stopped at once. Vit’s
adventure began here.
Once Vit had thought he had
found the evil king, he had been confronted by something much different.
Something completely unexpected. Darkness seeped from the core of the Earth.
Solid shadows had been erupting from the ground, and with it, demons and
creatures unlike any he had ever seen before in all his years in the land of
Color.
On the other side of these
geysers of darkness stood a castle, painted completely black, in the shape of a
skull. This was not King Colorless’s castle. This was much more evil, and
brought much more fear to Vit’s heart than anything he’d ever seen before. His
love, his queen, wasn’t going to be turned colorless. She was going to
disappear. Lose her presence in the world, and with her, everyone in their
kingdom.
Vit looked up towards the
castle. Though he was full of fear of what was happening, he didn’t look away.
The king loved his people, his queen, and his creatures of color too much to
allow them to wither away. He stepped through the geysers of darkness, bravely.
Ignoring the fear of losing his own presence in the world, which had been
ripping a whole in his chest ever since he’d seen the castle. He ran bravely to
the castle door.
There, facing the king, was a
giant keyhole. Vit had no key… He began to hit the door, hoping that somewhere
in his desperate attempts, he would be able to knock the door aside. He stopped
after quite a while of trying. Shaking, he walked away and tried looking for
another entrance to the castle. Once again, no know avail.
He finally sat and gave up…
“Vit, don’t fail me now,
friend.” That voice… The Goddess of Color, Ariana, had spoke to him. Vit was
surprised to hear the voice, and stood quickly to look to the sky in respect.
“My dear King Color, go and save your queen.”
Vit was confused. He knew not
how to enter the castle to save his queen.
“You dear, sweet child, I fear
for you so. You deserve not to be treated in this rude manner. In this dire
time of need, I grant you my power. From this day on you will be known as the
God of Color.”
Wings grew from the King’s back.
He felt exceedingly powerful. Once he’d been permitted the power of Ariana he
flew to the tallest room of the castle, where he’d found his queen laying on a
table, and beside her stood the God of Darkness, Erebus. As he flew, color
splattered off his wings and painted the world.
Erebus growled at Vit as he
approached, angered by the beautiful color that had been painting his palace.
He grabbed a spear and began thrusting it at the God of Color, but to no avail.
Vit swiped his hand before Erebus could dodge. The God of Darkness was painted
in all shades of color… His darkness quickly began to fade. The king smiled as
he began to turn into a bright shade of white. That was Vit’s color. He must
have been the one person left in the world that had no color inside him, other
than Vit. King darkness was furious, and in his anger, he jumped off the side
of his palace and returned to Hades, where he belonged.
Vit picked up his agonized queen
in his arms and flew back to the palace of Color. Iris had been given her color
once again. Once the Goddess of the Rainbow and the God of Color had regained
their thrones, the peace of color had once again spread across the realm, under
the defending wings of the King and Queen.
